Maartje Hospel is a tax attorney based in Angers, France.
Her parents, Willem and Ellen Hospel, emigrated to Normandy in 1999, where they have now been established as dairy farmers for more than 25 years. Upon their arrival, they immediately invested in a milking robot—the first in the region and one of the first in France. Today, they milk 150 Prim'Holstein dairy cows using two milking robots and farm approximately 200 hectares of land.
Having grown up on the family farm and with the ambition of becoming a lawyer, Maartje has always planned to support farmers in their legal and tax-related projects and challenges. More recently, she has developed an additional specialization as an attorney in agricultural transactions.
Following the successful collaboration between Willem, Ellen and Interfarms in the early 2000s, Willem and Maartje decided this year to offer their services as a team to Interfarms clients.
This partnership enables them to combine their expertise in emigration to France, agriculture, dairy farming, French law, and French taxation. In addition to helping farmers find the most suitable agricultural business for their relocation plans, they place great importance on supporting clients throughout the entire establishment process. This includes advising on the optimal acquisition, business and ownership structures, assisting with administrative procedures, and acting as intermediaries with professional partners.
France offers a variety of legal structures, each with its own legal, social, and fiscal framework. As Willem often says: "You only get one chance to start, so make sure you start right." This statement highlights the value of their collaboration: finding the right opportunity is just as important as finding the right way to make it happen.
