Maartje Hospel is our emigration advisor in the west of France.
Maartje Hospel is a tax lawyer in Angers, France.
Her parents, Willem and Ellen Hospel, emigrated to Normandy in 1999, where they have now been established as dairy farmers for more than 25 years. Upon arrival, they immediately invested in a milking robot – the first in the region and one of the first in France. Today, they milk 150 Prim' Holstein cows using two robots and cultivate approximately 200 hectares of land.
Having grown up on the farm and with the ambition to become a lawyer, Maartje has always planned to support farmers in their legal and tax-related projects and challenges. Recently, she has expanded her activities as a lawyer specializing in agricultural transactions.
Following a successful collaboration in the early 2000s between Willem and Ellen and Interfarms, Willem and Maartje decided this year to jointly offer their services to Interfarms clients.
This collaboration allows them to combine their expertise in emigration to France, agriculture, dairy farming, as well as French law and taxation. In addition to assisting farmers in finding the most suitable farm for their relocation project, they place great value on supporting them throughout the entire establishment process (including considerations regarding optimal acquisition, establishment, and operational structures, guidance in administrative procedures, mediation with professional partners, etc.). After all, France offers various types of structures, each with its own legal, social, and fiscal framework.
As Willem often says: “You only get one chance to start, so start well.” This highlights the importance of his collaboration with his daughter: finding the “what” is just as important as finding the “how”!
